Rugby YOUTH

In partnership with...

As part of the Gotham Gives Back Initiative, the Gotham Knights and Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (with the support of Play Rugby USA) teamed up to provide free rugby training and matches to disadvantaged students in Queens. Gotham worked within two schools, Queens Vocational and Technical High School in Long Island City and Beacon 141 Middle School in Astoria, training over 30 children per week.

The program saw amazing success, evidenced by Queens Vocational — under the guidance of current and former Gotham players — taking home the bowl in the 2015 AIG Cup. We are excited by the potential we have seen in the students and in this program, and are proud to introduce a new generation to rugby.

It was amazingly fun, for both them and us! They picked the game up incredibly fast and we ended by running lines with loop and skip combinations. These kids had never even seen a rugby ball before we showed up!

The experience and the time spent was amazing and you guys and your team are amazing. It was really fun and I loved being taught the new stuff, and loved playing with you guys. Thank you for everything and thank you for having us.

Volunteers to help coach and facilitate these programs are welcomed and should contact Gotham for more details.
