Rugby YOUTH
In partnership with...
As part of the Gotham Gives Back Initiative, the Gotham Knights and Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (with the support of Play Rugby USA) teamed up to provide free rugby training and matches to disadvantaged students in Queens. Gotham worked within two schools, Queens Vocational and Technical High School in Long Island City and Beacon 141 Middle School in Astoria, training over 30 children per week.
The program saw amazing success, evidenced by Queens Vocational — under the guidance of current and former Gotham players — taking home the bowl in the 2015 AIG Cup. We are excited by the potential we have seen in the students and in this program, and are proud to introduce a new generation to rugby.
Volunteers to help coach and facilitate these programs are welcomed and should contact Gotham for more details.
OUT ON THE FIELDS
REPORT ON HOMOPHOBIA IN SPORTS
"Out on the Fields is the largest and the first international study on homophobia in sport. Nearly 9500 people took part, primarily from English speaking countries. Participants included around 25% heterosexual men and women."
It Gets Better Project
The It Gets Better Project's mission is to communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to make it better for them. Gotham was proud to participate in this effort by contributing our own video.
